Turntable is the Future
Turntable (tt.fm) isn’t about us. Turntable was never about one person or one ego, but it was always about the fans. It was always community driven, community moderated, with the community building tools and plugins and bots.
The all-new Turntable (tt.fm) is similarly not about our team but about the moments we create together. It’s about all of the fans I am meeting with 1:1 over zoom who want a way to meet more chill people in a supportive welcoming environment where they can be free to just be themselves.
Everything is going great with our beta testers on the all-new Turntable (tt.fm). I just wanted to quickly clarify some confusion related to a former colleague.
I worked with Billy Chasen back in 2011, when we founded the original Turntable together. Since it shut down in 2014, I have made several attempts to work with him to bring Turntable back, but he consistently refused. When I started crowdfunding for the all-new Turntable (tt.fm) in 2020, so many people were excited! So I again emailed Billy to join in creating a new version. He again refused.
Instead, even though…
When I worked at Facebook, we had a saying: “this journey is only 1% finished.” This was meant somewhat literally in that when we had “only” 100 million users: we were only 1% of the way to having everyone who will be on Earth in 100 years (about 10 billion). It helped remind us that even with all our success, we were only just starting the journey and there were literally billions more people left to reach.
Waymo is not far ahead of everyone, nor almost done solving driverless. Waymo is in fact less than 1% finished.
Waymo recently released…
Here’s a quick question: how far would you have to drive before you die in a car crash? Answer out loud to yourself before you look it up.
The dirty secret in the autonomous industry is that humans are actually incredibly safe. Most humans in a matter of a few hours can operate any multi-ton vehicle in most weather anywhere in the world. As road conditions change humans instantaneously adapt control response and safety protocols. Humans dynamically interact with totally never before seen objects and situations. They regularly fall asleep while going over the speed limit. They regularly drive drunk…
Tesla detractors love to complain about how bad Autopilot is, how far it’s lagging behind Waymo. When using Autopilot, drivers must keep their hands attentively on the steering wheel at all times; it is so finicky, and risky. The visualizations on the dash jiggle frequently, indicating unreliable sensors. What the detractors don’t realize is that Tesla ought to always be just this awful, until the day the self-driving algorithm is perfect. Why? Because of something I like to call the L3 Barrier, and the Safety Paradox.
The L3 Barrier references driving levels. There are five levels of driving automation specifying…
You and hundreds of millions of people have probably seen this graphic I composed as part of a long research document.
How do you convince the mayor of Medellín, Colombia to require masks on public transportation? Also the Philippines and Tunisia?
How do you get the US Surgeon General, the CDC to reverse their guidance on mask-wearing?
He even doubled down as late as March 28:

Rules based on real world experience in Hong Kong successfully curbing the coronavirus (in addition to the testing, tracing, and isolation that every government is already doing).
Consider face shields, gloves, and goggles as well.
Masks work. Masks save lives. Even homemade ones. This is especially important on public transportation as people get into close proximity. This limits a lot of asymptomatic transmission. Merely speaking spreads the virus. …
The End of Corporate Greed or the End of America
There is a choice happening in 2020.
It is either death to profit-focused corporate controlled government bureaucracies, or death to the United States of America. This is literally life or death and will play out in next 18 months.
This is also the reason that the CDC and FDA’s responses have been so slow. It has cost lives. Corps and lobbyists need time to figure out how to maximize profit for their interests. They also use the pressure as leverage to get what they want.
Whereas pandemics need fast responses…
The 5 Stages of Coronavirus Grief
We were in Denial for a quarter, now we are in the Anger at Trump and China stage. Some have somewhat entered the Bargaining stage, but it’ll be a while before we realize that 0% interest, temperature checks, PPP, WHO defunding, and other measures won’t solve everything.
Stock market is way up, so we haven’t gotten to the Depression stage but soon.
If you want to get ahead of the curve realize and embrace the Acceptance that Pandora’s box has been opened.
The world is different — just like 1918: space-time is now relativistic, quantum world splits multiverses, planes exist, world wars can slaughter millions, women can soon vote, the aristocracy is dead, Prohibition will last a decade.

WHO can help?
In a time of isolation, we choose solidarity
You are not alone. Taiwan is with you.
We know what you are going through. We know how hard it is.
Taiwan, having been devastated by the SARS epidemic in 2003, knows.
Taiwan, having been isolated from the World Health Organization, knows.
That is why we are contributing to international efforts by sharing how we contained the outbreak, kept our schools and businesses open, and ensured masks for all.
In the past weeks, Taiwan has provided more…
